An Enchanting Destination
Positioned on the eastern edge of the Cape Floristic Kingdom — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — the 600 hectare Van Stadens Wildflower Reserve invites you to explore its enchanting landscapes.
Set against the silhouette of the Lady Slipper Mountains, with views of the iconic Van Stadens Bridge (built in 1971), this floral wonderland is located 35km (40mins) from Gqeberha, just off the N2 highway.
Rich Biodiversity
The Wildflower Reserve, home to a rich variety of indigenous fynbos flora, protects eleven high-endangered, endemic plants and offers walking and driving access to two different biomes: Algoa Grassy Fynbos and Coastal Forest.
Winter Bloom: The Iconic King Protea
In winter, visitors can easily find the National Flower of South Africa, the stunning bloom of the iconic King Protea (Protea cynaroides). Celebrated for its grand, eye-catching flowers and crown-like shape, there are numerous specimens readily found.
Family Friendly Fun
Enjoy scenic picnic spots at your own pace, or take part in a Guided Storytelling Visitor Walk led by experienced local guides. These Guided walks are available at a nominal fee of R150 per guide and offer insights into the Reserve’s unique flora and fauna. Walks last 1–2 hours, with a maximum of 15 people per guide.

Outdoor Activities
Seven moderate-to-easy walking trails, all Green Flag certified, offer safe and well-marked opportunities for hiking, trail running, and family-friendly mountain biking.

The Van Stadens Wildflower Reserve is a haven of biome connectivity, where the Fynbos and Forest biomes meet in a harmonious blend of biodiversity. Known for its remarkable plant and tree diversity, this convergence also supports a rich variety of bird species, making it a prime destination for birdwatching enthusiasts.
Immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of the Reserve by visiting the charming, handcrafted wooden bird hide at Lily Pond, accessible along the Nymph Trail.
