The Wildflower Reserve is a place where every plant holds a storyβancient, rooted, and waiting to be rediscovered. Among its pathways and fynbos-covered slopes, these living tales are passed on not only through the land itself but also through the voices of those who care for it.
Weβre thrilled to share an inspiring short film created by Yongama Qulu, a Grade 12 student from Woodridge Preparatory and College. With his fresh, creative perspective, Yongama captures the beauty and importance of our indigenous plants while shining a light on the passion of our dedicated Conservation Interns.

In this video, youβll meet Conservation Intern Busi Dyantjies, who introduces us to the graceful Protea coronataβa crowned jewel of the protea family. With its regal bloom and distinctive form, this remarkable species does more than just dazzle the eye. It plays a vital role in supporting pollinators and sustaining the health of our fynbos ecosystem.

This project reflects the heart of what we do at Friends of Van Stadens (FOVS): to educate and to conserve. By nurturing future conservationists and storytellers, we ensure that the knowledge and love of indigenous plants continues to growβrooted in curiosity, care, and community.
We invite you to experience these stories in person. Visit the Wildflower Reserve, join one of our Guided Walks, and discover for yourself the incredible world of plants that carry the wisdom of the land.
